Tell Her, I only said – the Syntax –

And left the Verb and the Pronoun – out –

伝えてね 言葉を並べただけで

動詞も代名詞も 落としたこと

Tell Her just how the fingers hurried –

Then – how they – stammered – slow – slow –

And then – you wished you had eyes – in your pages –

So you could see – what moved – them – so –

時には 何も 書けなかったこと

ページを見る目を 持ってたら

指が震えていた 理由が分かる

小さい子の力しか ないようで

同情し 涙が出そうだったこと

Tell Her – No – you may quibble – there –

For it would split Her Heart – to know it –

And then – you and I – were silenter! 

伝えてね いいえ これは 内緒に

ばれたら あの方の胸が裂けて

二度と 口がきけなくなるから

Tell Her – Day finished – before we – finished –

And the Old Clock kept neighing – “Day”!

And you – got sleepy –

And begged to be ended –

What could – it hinder so – to say?

伝えてね 夜の内に書き上げて

古時計が 夜明けを告げたこと

眠くなって 早くと頼んだこと

べつに 何も困らないでしょう

To hear an Oriole sing

May be a common thing –

Or only a divine.

高麗鶯の歌を 聞くのは

It is not of the Bird

鳥はいつでも，同じ歌い方，

ああ - でもあなたも忘れずに - 

Nature in chivalry –

Nature in charity –

Nature in equity –

This Rose ordained!

自然の信義が 厚いなら - 
自然の慈悲が 深いなら - 
自然が 公平だったなら - 
薔薇が 任命されるはず！

I had a guinea golden –

I lost it in the sand –

And tho’ the sum was simple

And pounds were in the land –

手に握っていた 一ギニー - 
砂のなかで なくしました - 
なくしたお金は ごく僅か
地中に 何ポンドもあったけど - 

Still, had it such a value

Unto my frugal eye –

That when I could not find it –

I sat me down to sigh.

それでも 高価なものでした
けちなわたしの 目にとって
とうとう 見つけられなくて -
